Interdisciplinarity and plurality of themes are distinctive characteristics of "Estudos Avançados", one of the most important Brazilian university journals. Dedicated to the scientific, cultural and public policies debate, the journal publishes dossiers about themes of strategic interest to Brazilian socioeconomic development, articles about science, technology, culture and arts, as well as reviews about outstanding launches in the editorial market. Recent dossiers have addressed topics such as biotechnology, social and environmental theories, epidemics, water, humanities, National Congress, international crisis, Cuba, São Paulo, nation/nationalism, institutes of advanced studies, and sustainability. Published interruptedly every four months since the end of 1987, the journal has already brought out 74 issues. Each issue has over 350 pages and 2500 print copies. Since April 2006 the complete collection of the journal (in Portuguese), in its digital version, has been available at the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), with an average of 8 thousand daily accesses to the articles. The professor and critic of Brazilian literature Alfredo Bosi has been the editor of "Estudos Avançados" since 1989. A retired full professor of the School of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences of USP, Bosi is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and a former director of IEA. Dario Luis Borelli is the assistant editor of the journal, whose Editorial Board is composed of eminent Brazilian and foreign scholars. The editorial and graphic production costs of the publication are covered by resources that come from various sources: budgetary funds, subscription fees, direct sales of particular issues, USP’s program of support to periodicals, research support agencies and private sponsors. |
