Crisis in the Congress

The group of texts that make up the Crisis in the Congress Dossier was written in light of the recent events that affected the image of the Brazilian Senate in a particular way.

Now, after the gale of attacks and defenses, it is time for reflection. It is important to examine the structural reasons that enabled the outburst of such an event, which concerns us all as Brazilian citizens and voters. For this reason, "Estudos Avançados" has heard different players and spectators directly or indirectly involved in the crisis: political scientists, congressmen, a representative of the Judiciary Branch, and a press analyst. We hope we have been able to draw a sufficiently broad and diversified picture, so as to encompass the various profiles of the theme.

Finally, the English translation of Machado de Assis’s famous chronicle, “The Old Senate”, brings back to life an already extinct world, not better nor worse than the current one, but certainly more decorous.
